Oakland CAO Jestin Johnson Fired By Mayor Lee Over Texts About Oakland DOV Chief Dr. Holly Joshi Oakland (Special to ZennieReport.com) – After a rather controversial three-year term, Oakland City Administrator Jestin Johnson finds himself out of a job after (what was told to Zennie62Media by a close City Hall source were) text messages he wrote about Oakland Department of Violence Prevention Chief Dr. Holly Joshi. Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee issued a statement announcing the resignation of Oakland CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) Jestin Johnson which reads (in part) as follows: “ Statement on the Resignation of the City Administrator: I have met with and accepted the resignation of City Administrator Jestin Johnson. On Friday evening, I learned about certain degrading and unprofessional communications involving Mr. Johnson. We promptly conducted our own investigation and verified these communications, which are wholly incompatible with the values of this administration and those of the people of Oakland. Under my watch, I will not tolerate transgressions of this nature. I have appointed Assistant City Administrator Elizabeth (“Betsy”) Lake to serve as Acting City Administrator, and the City Council has been informed. Ms. Lake has worked in the City Administration for over eight years and is an experienced attorney with over 30 years of practice. I want to reassure Oakland residents that government services and operations will not be affected during this time of transition. I was elected to represent the values of the Oakland community and that work and commitment continues. Mayor Barbara Lee, City of Oakland Jestin Johnson Focus Of Internal Investigation After Text Message Reveal The main question on everyone’s mind was who Sheng Thao-appointed Oakland CAO Jestin Johnson was writing about. The Zennie62Media, Inc. sources did not hesitate, in the process pushing claims that Johnson’s text were about a “subordinate” in the standard sense of the term – where Johnson texted a male colleague that she was his “kryptonite” and said that she had a “helluva walk” – to the trash bin. The text and the internal investigation were more specific toward Johnson’s actions regarding one person: Dr. Holly Joshi. As of this writing it is not known if Dr. Joshi was aware of Johnson’s texts about her. But given the swirl of controversy that surrounded the termination of Oakland Assistant Administrator La Tonda Simmons one would be forgiven if they thought the text messages had something to do with her. One would also be forgiven if they believed the person on the receiving end of the text messages was one G. Harold Duffy, the now former Assistant City Administrator who jumped ship for a better job as City Manager for The City of San Bernardino, California. G. Harold Duffy, was the same person who was behind the FBI investigation of his boss Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao thus igniting the release of the text messages written by Jestin Johnson. Talk about a tangled web, and many are doing just that. Why Did Mayor Lee Let Johnson Hang Around Given His Ties To Sheng Thao? A good part of this tangled web is Johnson’s ties to the recalled and investigated Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, and The Duong Family (who’s rumored to have been asked to give the “thumbs up” for Sheng to hire Johnson). Given that Johnson was the quarterback for Mayor Thao’s policy objectives and had to know somewhat more than most about her questionable and maybe-not-legal actions, why didn’t Mayor Barbara Lee just let go of Johnson and hire La Tonda Simmons as his replacement? Mayor Lee let Jestin Johnson craft a negative narrative about La Tonda Simmons and then fire her on that basis. So are we to think that Mayor Lee would allow a high-renking, long-tenured executive like La Tonda Simmons to be the focus of a firing by Jestin Johnson as long as he did not write sexist stuff about her?
